Roll call

We’ve intentionally kept a low-profile (our actual home is raycaster.ai). So, if you received this, (a) we’re impressed by something about you (b) a friend is impressed by something about you (c) actually fuck this is linked to YC jobs now so that’s an option. Anyways, we would like to see if what we’re doing is of interest to you. Let me share a bit:

Raycaster is building research agents for science, starting with scientific sales.

The backdrop
Selling to biotech companies requires understanding their science: combing through research papers, redlining patents, screening thousands of scientist LinkedIn profiles, etc for each prospective customer. This work often requires a PhD salesperson to spend up to 30+% of their time manually doing these intellectually-consuming but manual workflows.
As a result, the pipeline for million-dollar deals is bottlenecked at the research point.

The company
We left our jobs beginning of October, and since then:
  • Backed by Y Combinator & finished our batch in mid-December
  • Went $0 -> $100k ARR during the batch
  • Featured on TechCrunch

Why?
Our goal is not to compete in sales tech. We're going after scientific superintelligence, starting with the highest-leverage team - sales.

We will become the intelligence layer that powers every scientific organization, turning complex research into actionable insights across every function. Scientific sales is the overlooked entry point for building the future of scientific understanding.

O3 is scoring 87.7% on GPQA Diamond (PhD-level science questions that are not Google-able — actual PhD experts only score ~70%).  The future of scientific understanding and contribution is completely greenfield. The time to throw the ball is now — why not us?

About the role:

You will
  • Build production-grade applied AI systems
  • Have a lot of responsibility for technical architecture
  • Be the first full-time person to join our mission and have significant ownership (ask us about this)

We want to work with someone who is
  • A founder or are a former founder (CTO)
  • Passionate for science
  • A little autistic
  • Able to start at least part-time soon
  • [nice to have] Dislikes YC
  • [nice to have] Cracked at the ‘modern’ web stack (NextJS, Supabase, Vercel, serverless functions)

Fate brought you here?
If we don’t know you yet, but if it sounds interesting, to get started: either email founders@raycaster.ai or text +1 510-930-8618 introducing yourself, ideally with some Twitter/LinkedIn/Github/resume in the message and we’ll get back to you!
